With the Indian motorcycle industry expanding at a massive rate, the focus is slowly shifting from the manufactures to Customised Bikes builders and modifiers across the country. From changing the entire structure and look of existing bike models to building completely new ones from scratch, these designers are rewriting the rules of how bikes should look. Here are some of the Customised Bikes builders in India currently.
#1. Rajputana Custom Motorcycles

Rajputana Customs is a small motorcycle outfit based in Jaipur. IT was started by Vijay Singh in 2009 when he decided to build a custom-made bike around the 350cc engine of a Royal Enfield Classic. The bike, which was named Original Gangster, received rave reviews at the 2010 Delhi Auto Expo. After that, a mutual friend of Vijay Introduced him to John Abraham, one of the charming and popular superstars of Bollywood, who already owned a stock Yamaha R1, V-Max, and a Suzuki Hayabusa and was looking for his first custom build.
The actor/producer commissioned a board track racer- a lightweight, narrow-framed motorcycle with dropped handlebars, stretched low-set frames and narrow wheels which Vijay nicknamed Lightfoot. After that, the orders started pouring in. The names of the individual custom model are quite interesting like Nandi, Bitto, Aghori, Rakhdi, Jordaar, 8 balls etc. Each name has its own story behind it. “I schooled myself on bike engineering by watching Youtube videos. For aesthetic inspiration, I turned to Californian builder Jesse Rooke’s cruisers. I sourced a few of the components locally and built those I couldn’t find off the shelf”, he said. Rajputana Customs has gone from strength to strength and established itself as one of the most reputed builders in India.

#2.Old Delhi Motorcycles

Bobbee Singh, a restoration specialist, is the founder of Old Delhi Motorcycles. Over the last 15 years, the 41-year-old cultivated a network of “informants” who tip him off about Vintage Royal Enfields that are up for sale. He snags them, restores them and then sells the motorcycles to customers around the world. Singh prefers Nortons, BSAs, Triumphs and Royal Enfields. I have grown up on stories which romanticized these motorcycles- stories about British officers meticulously polishing their Triumphs after Sunday Mass within the cantonments, of riding them to events like the Jabalpur Ball.
These motorcycles were designed for India. An 18-minute long documentary movie, named “Old Delhi Motorcycles” starring Bobbee Singh was showcased at New York’s Motorcycle Film Festival and has already racked up over 250,000 views on YouTube. In that video, he speaks of his love for restoring bikes and introduces some of the mechanics and component specialists he works with. Old Delhi Motorcycle Customs is all about restoring the vintage look and feel of the bikes more than the technical aspects.
