“Practice what you preach or change your speech”
Hypocrisy is ubiquitous and unlimited. Normally people don’t even give a second thought on controversies. It does not even take a second for baseless things to go viral. Most of the people are biased towards almost everything. Be it speech or a TV show. Yes, you got it! There has been a hell lot of controversies hovering around the popular TV show ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’, currently being aired on a national television channel, Sony TV.
I was unaware of that show totally until I came across an article that highlighted about a petition against that TV show. Whatever be the accusations, the TV show is garnering a lot of attention. A petition has been filed on www.change.org and 53,000 people have already signed it. Here is the link to the petition:
Claims of the petition
Child marriage:
Yes, it’s truly a case of child marriage and I strongly oppose it. Earlier girls were married off to older boys. That was a sensitive issue. The reverse is the case here. A boy has been married off to an older girl. Yes, it is truly a matter of concern. It is definitely against the laws. But, at the end of the day, a TV show is basically for entertainment. If the concept had been that bizarre and threatening, then SonyTV wouldn’t have given consent to that story. Not at the cost of its popularity at least.
Romantic sequences:
I was dumbstruck when I read about it. I, like you, immediately formed a low opinion of that show in my mind. But, I personally watched all the episodes of that serial. And lo and behold! I couldn’t find any romantic sequences. Any child would have done that. People mistook the innocence of that child. This is just not done. We can’t merely form a negative opinion blindly. And that too, without even going through the truth. This is misleading and far from the truth. The infamous “suhaagraat” sequence was full of purity and innocence with a childish pillow fighting scene. If that is a romantic scene, what do we have to say about the overtly obscene scenes portrayed in Indian movies nowadays?

Adverse impact on Indian Children:
Seriously! we let our children watch TV shows? We should let our children watch educational or cartoon shows instead! A child will never come to know about a show if we don’t watch it. We are regular viewers of that show. That serves as a means of entertainment for us and still, we all are signing a petition against it! The show is being aired since a month only. It has not even reached its climax. How can we judge a show by mere allegations? Who knows, it may be far from the truth.
Now our honorable Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Smriti Irani wants a ban on that show. This vividly highlights the hypocrisy of the Indian Society. We want entertainment. If we are provided with entertainment different from the conventional Saas Bahu themes, then we oppose it? Hypocrisy is deep-rooted. We, the Indian people have time and again proved ourselves in this regard.
Everyone has the right to voice his/her opinion. But don’t do it blindly at least. Observe all the details, think rationally and then jump into conclusions. Because your opinion matters a lot. Your voice can make a difference. Don’t let that mislead others. If it’s for a change, let that be for a better tomorrow.
I don’t have any motive to hurt national sentiments. I just conveyed my opinion regarding the issue. Kindly voice your opinion wisely.
This is the outcome of the poll.
